W/F Ledyard 6/18/07

On 6/18/07 the Ledyard and Gales Ferry units were dispatched to a structure fire at 8 Cartridge Trail. This house is located in the Highland section of town. Staff Sgt. Finkelstein was able to get the scene early and snap a few pics while operations were getting under way. The fire started on the rear porch from logs that were smoldering from a camp fire the night before. As you can see from the pics the building construction in this area is very poor. The roofing 2x4 and thin plywood with shingles. Mutual aid from Old Mystic, Mashantucket, and Subase Fast team to the scene.

Thanks to Staff Sergeant Finkelstein for the photos

Upon arrival of units found heavy smoke coming from the rear

Fire Department vs. Police 6/16/07

On 6/16/07 the Gales Ferry & Ledyard fire department participated in a fundraising game of softball with the Ledyard Police department. The event was to help raise money for a new D.A.R.E vehicle. The fire department gave the cops a run for there money but in the end the D.A.R.E program was the big winner. This was the first of many games that we will be playing this year.

Hazmat Tech class

For the past five week I have been taken a hazmat tech class at Mystic Hoxie station. After week of class room work we finally got to do hands on stuff. We have been working on patching and applying chlorine A and B kits. Last Tuesday night we started to dress out in level A and B suits. We were given task to do like picking up nickels off the floor, changing a SCBA bottle and walking up and down stairs while in the suits. More pics to come when we do our finally test Thursday night

Hazmat response at Walmart in Groton for a unknown liquid in a tractor trailer. I was talking to some of the employees and they said it was tiki torch oil that was leaking from a pallet. When i get more accurate info I will pass it on
